Why Do We Stand When We Sing?

“And the Levites, ...of the children of the Korhites, stood up to praise the Lord God of Israel with a loud voice on high.” - 2 Chronicles 20:19

Why Do We Wave Flags and Banners?

“We will lift up our banners in the name of the Lord!” - Psalms 20:5

Examples of Wave Offerings in the Scripture: Ex. 35:22; Num. 8:21; John 12:13

The colors of the flags have scriptural meaning:
RED: Warfare, Blood of Jesus [Ex. 12:23, 1 Cor. 6:20]; Love of God [Song of Sol. 2:4]; BLUE: River of Life [Ez. 47:9], Rememberance of God's Commands [Num. 15:38-39]; GREEN: Healing [Rev. 22:2]; WHITE: Purity [Rev. 7:9]; GOLD: Glory of God [Heb. 9:4,5]; YELLOW: Presence of God [Ez. 1:4, 8:2]; PURPLE: Royalty, Kingship, Authority [Esther 8:15, Judges 8:26]; PINK: Passion for Jesus, Joy [1 Sam. 18:6, Neh. 12:43]; ORANGE: Fire of God [Heb. 12:29]; BLACK: Righteous Judgment [Rev. 6:5].

 


Why Do We Clap Our Hands?

“O clap your hands all ye people; shout unto God with the voice on high.” - Psalms 47:1

Why Do We Lift Our Hands?

“Thus I will bless Thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in Thy name.” - Psalms 63:4

“Lift up your hands in the sanctuary and bless the Lord.” - Psalms 134:2

“I will therefore that men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.” - 1 Timothy 2:8


Why Do We Have Audible Praise Unto God?

“Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me bless His holy name.” - Psalms 103:1

“I will bless the Lord at all times: His praise shall continually be in my mouth.” - Psalms 34:1

“And when they heard this, they lifted their voices to God...” - Acts 4:24


Why Do We Sing In Tongues and In English?

“For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful. What is it then? I will pray with the spirit and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.” - 1 Corinthians 14:14-15

Why Do We Have This Type of Worship?

“But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in Spirit and in Truth for the Father seeketh such to worship Him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship Him must worship Him in Spirit and in Truth.” - John 4:23-24

“For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the Spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus and have no confidence in the flesh.” - Philippians 3:3


Why Do We Sing Choruses as Well as Hymns?

“And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns, and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.” - Ephesians 5:18-19

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns, and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.” - Colossians 3:16


What Is Prophecy?

“...the Lord God hath spoken, who can but prophesy?” - Amos 3:8

“Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy. But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort.” - 1 Cor. 14:1, 3

“Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge.” - 1 Cor. 14:29

“For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn and all may be comforted.” - 1 Cor. 14:31


Why Do We Have Speaking with Tongues
& Interpretation of Those Tongues?

“Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues.” - 1 Cor. 14:39

“But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal...To another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues.” - 1 Cor. 12:7, 10

“I would that ye all spake with tongues, but rather that ye prophesied: for greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying.” - 1 Corinthians 14:5

“If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course, and let one interpret.” - 1 Corinthians 14:27


Why Are Musical Instruments A Part of the Worship Service?

“Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet; Praise Him with the psaltry and harp; Praise Him with the timbrel and dance. Praise him with stringed instruments and organs. Praise Him upon the loud cymbals: Praise Him upon the high sounding cymbals." - Psalm 150:3-5

"And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder: and I heard the voice of harpers harping with their harps. - Rev. 14:2


Why Does the Whole Church Pray at Once for Specific Needs?

"And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, Lord, Thou art God, which hast made heaven and earth.” - Acts 4:24

Why Do We Anoint with Oil and Pray for the Sick?

"Is any sick among you? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; and the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up, and if he has committed sins, they will be forgiven him." - James 5:14, 15
